This week, my group went to Macie’s Place to get more information for the biography of Suzanne. She explained that she wants Kristin, her partner in the organization, to be included as well. So, we may have to work extra hard on getting more information about Kristin for the piece. Elise and I went to the store to get a 360 video of the inside and the outside. We were able to get video of people shopping, entering, and leaving the store. Just in case, I audio taped along with it so we could get audio of the activities. There were a lot of trucks driving by so we got some great audio of that happening, as well as possibly the door ringing when it was opened and shut. I basically finished up the biography on Suzanne, and am going to get started on a timeline of her life that we could incorporate into the website. Depends if I have enough information on dates in her life big events occurred already or if I will need to plan another visit. Overall, this week our group has continued to work together on things. Even though Elise and I were the only ones able to make it to the store, the others were so helpful on writing out the interview and peer reviewing work.

Pechar Week 11
This week our group has worked together to start writing the owner biography and writing a script from our interview. This has taken most of our time because the interview was over an hour. Luckily, we were able to break it up equally to get it done. It will take longer than we think, but I think it is important to have. I am going to Macy’s Place this afternoon to gather more detailed information about the owner and gather any personal stories she may want to be included in her biography. I will be writing this portion this weekend and beginning of next week, with help from group members and everyone’s peer reviews. It will be exciting to get more information on her life as an organization leader, and finding out how the organization began. Our group has worked equally so far, and all have something talented to contribute to the work. Elise is going to keep working on a 360 video as well. We have begun establishing the design and format of our website, and getting cool ideas from class presentations on interactive ads that we can incorporate into our work.
Week 10- Maggie DeGarmo
This past week at Iceberg agency we started compiling all the data that we have so far collected. We collected a lot of information from our visit to Macie’s place such as interviews, b-roll footage, a time-lapse and some photos. This week we decided that to narrow down some of what we collected in order to have more concise information. We want to start working on the website in a more physical way. We took portions of the interview and transcribed them. We plan on using portions of the interview in video clips, audio clips and quotes for our text. However, there was a lot of background noise in the interview so Elsie suggested that we interview her again to have clearer audio. We all agreed that this was a good idea because we want to have the best possible media for our website. We also did some research on poverty in Lincoln because we want to incorporate this into our website with our interactive feature. One thing that we need to try and work on as a group is dividing up the work and finding times that we can meet. It’s difficult to do this because of our conflicting schedules, so hopefully we can find a solution to that soon.
Pechar Week 10
This week, our group has begun writing a script from our interview, a biography/contribute to the owner of Macys Place, and gather a few more b-roll, 360 shots, and information. We also decided it would be a good idea to go back to the store and re-interview her. When we went in, we were constantly interrupted. It was a busy time, and although we received good information from her, we were all distracted by customers coming in and leaving. Some interesting parts we got from the audio and interview was her telling customers to have a blessed day, giving children free toys, other customers talking to us about their personal stories they gave permission for us to use, and so much more. It was great for the sense of background noise for the site and interviews, but to be safe we decided it would be important to go back after hours so we were not interrupted and could find a more spacious area to set up with better lighting. We are all continue working together as a team, splitting up content equally and trying our hardest to find times that work for all members of the group. I am very pleased with how our project has come so far, and can’t wait to see the finished product!

This week as a group we have been working on getting all or out information and media gathered that we have collected over the previous weeks. Individually I helped transcribe part of the interview that I conducted with the founder of Macie’s Place. As a group, we decided that is would be best to go back and do a second interview Friday when the store is closed in hopes with better audio and video this time around. Last time we seemed to come around the busy hour and captured a lot of background noise when listening back to the audio we got. I have also been thinking of ways that we want to start putting things together on the physical website. I know we decided to use the platform Wix, now I am just figuring out the best features and ways for us to put everything on the website. Each of us individually has been doing research on the poverty levels in Nebraska and in Lincoln to use as data visualization on our website. We have yet to come together as a group and discuss what we have found. The goal is to use the data we compile to make a graph or an interactive map that shows the poverty levels.
Maggie DeGarmo week 8
This week we got a lot done which I’m happy with. We were able to go to Macie’s Place to get a lot of footage. We interviewed the owner as well as a customer who told us some interesting stories. We were able to get some b-roll footage and a time lapse which we’ll use for our website. We had some great conversations with the owner and got to know her better. I think we got a lot of useful footage but I definitely think we need more. We’ll need some more b-roll and interviews in order to complete our website. We’ll also need to start writing for the copy that we want to include on the website. There was a lot of commotion in the store while we were doing our interview which might affect the quality of the footage. However, I also believe that it gave a realistic quality of the interview. She was interacting with customers and acting like she normally does which I think is important to showcase. We plan to go back in the future and get more footage and information in order to perfect our website. Overall I think it was a very successful week.
Pechar Week 8
This week our group members visited Macies Place during our class period. It was a beneficial visit for all of us. For some, it was our first time really touring the place or meeting the owner. The owner is Suzanne and she was very helpful. She was optimistic, positive energy and very selfless. We got the chance to interview her and gather more information on how she started the organization and why she did. We learned that she sacrifices over 60 hours a week for Macies Place and the importance of helping less fortunate people in our local community. She shared a lot of stories on her regular customers and personal experiences. Elise captured B-Roll and footage of the outside of the store while we worked with Suzanne on interview questions and conversed with customers and their personal experiences. We learned a lot of valuable information we can use and all got to see how Macies Place has such an impact on the local community. I think the process of our interactive project is on track and will be successful. Everyone is putting in equal efforts and meeting up when we can. If not everyone can meet up, we have all been good with contributing by doing something else on our own time. Everyone has done such a great job and I can’t wait to see how our project continues.

Today we went to Macie’s Place to get content for our interactive website. Individually I was in charge of conducting the interviews and getting the footage and audio we needed for the website. I think as a group we got a lot of great content. We got some customers who were very passionate to share stories and give us their perspective on what they have seen here in Lincoln poverty wise. This website definitely won’t be lacking in interesting stories, we have got plenty of those. We also made sure to get b roll while we were ar Macie’s Place and came out successful with that as well. I am truly excited to see where this project will take us. I’m hoping this website will not just help spread the word about Macie’s Place but help people understand the poverty and homelessness that is in Lincoln and how each and every one of us can help out. The only challenge we have encountered is scheduling when to get content and when we will all be able to help contribute to the paper. But everyone has contributed greatly to the project so far and we have got a lot of great content in the works.
Week 7 Maggie DeGarmo
This week at iceberg agency we were planning on going back into Macies Place for the second time to take some pictures of the owner hanging up sock for their annual toy drive. After some contemplation we decided that the pictures weren’t necessary for our overall goal so we redid our game plan. We decided to go next wednesday to interview the owner and get more of her backstory and the backstory of Macie’s Place. We are going to compile some interview questions together and come up with a succinct list of questions so that we can get the most important information from her. We also want to hear some important or interesting stories that have shaped her life and the store as a whole. We would also like to get some names of customers that we can possibly also interview. We discussed whether or not to video tape the interview or just audio record it. I thought it would be a cool idea to do an audio tape so that we can split it up into segments and use certain parts of the interview in different portions of the website so that it isn’t just one long interview that people would have to watch.
Pechar Week 7
This week we worked on our schedule. We got 2 points taken off for not being specific enough, so we are working on who is going to do what. I work best with writing, so I am hoping to work on the “About/Bio” of our page with information on the Maci’s Place owner and nonprofit organization. Elise is really good at photography and does it as a job, so she is assigned to work on videos and photos of the owner and her story. The other’s discussed doing the interviews and audio, but overall we are all going to work together on everything we include and work together to edit and revise. So far we are working well together. Our only problem is that another team member and I can only really get together on Tuesdays and Thursdays but the others can on Mondays and Wednesdays so we will need to work around all of our schedules to make sure if we can’t all meet together at once then we can at least split it up so no one has to work alone.
