As a group, we met after class and decided our approach coming into next week. We decided that calling the owner and telling her our plan would instill a smooth environment for both us and her. We already got permission to get interviews and film now we just have to delegate work amongst ourselves and start working. I’ve started to think creatively of what we can do to get media and what we can do visually for our website. I know as a group we would like to utilize the 360 video feature, the task at hand is just finding a creative way to go about using it and what we want to show visually. Challenges we have come across this week is discovering that our schedules seem to collide when it comes to wanting to go out and get work done. Overall, we’re going to have to split up work. If we can all go as a group or as a pair that’s great but we might have to go individually to get the job done. I feel like we have solid ideas and know what we want to accomplish it’s just a matter of time of getting it done and creating the content.

Week 6 blog- Maggie DeGarmo
This week at Iceberg agency we started the first step in the process for our project. We decided that we wanted to go visit the site of our focus. We went to Macie’s place to officially meet one of the owners and ask her some questions. We decided to ask her about what her limitations were for what she was comfortable with us filming or photographing. She was very excited about our ideas and she was fine with whatever we wanted to do. She gave us some times that would work best for her during the week and told us that we can start taking pictures of them hanging up their gloves for their upcoming toy drive. She told us that she can get us in contact with some people that we may want to interview. She also told us that we can interview her and the other owner. In the future we’re going to try and go when she has more time to talk with her and make sure that we don’t catch her at a busy time so that we can make sure to get full interviews. I’m glad we went and met her and were able to see Macie’s Place because it gives me a visual of what we’re focusing on.

This week I had to complete a presentation on an interactive website that I thought was compelling. I researched a website that was published by the Washington Post and covered the story on Peurto Rico and the loss of power after hurricane Maria. Throughout the presentation, I had to point out the media used throughout the website and how it worked together to tell a compelling story. I also had to figure out what I would change about the website as a whole to improve it or that I think would benefit from it personally. After class as a group, we went to visit Macie’s Place and talk to one of the founders to get permission to do interviews and get video and photo content of the store. We’re planning on going to Macie’s Place next week to start getting video and photo of the toy drive for kids. Individually I am trying to figure out what website platform we should use to execute this interactive website that gives us the flexibility of using visuals and data visualizations. Seeing some of the interactive website presentations this week did give some inspiration on how we can put together our interactive website.
Pechar Week 6
This week, we finalized our schedule and made lists of things we think it would be cool to include in our final website. Tuesday morning some of the group members went to Maci’s Place to meet the owner and check out the store. They also asked permission to take photo’s, video’s, audio, etc for the project. I was unable to make it Tuesday morning, so on my own time, I am stopping into Maci’s Place this week to introduce myself as a project group member as well as getting to know the owner and to get a tour of the store. Hopefully, this will help me get a better understanding of what their intentions are with the store and I can build a personal connection with the organization. So far, our team has equally worked together to stay on track and get things done. I have a good feeling we will work together well this semester.
Week 4 Maggie DeGarmo
This week at Iceberg agency we did a lot of planning for the upcoming weeks. We had some scheduling conflicts come up so we had to switch directions with our topic of focus. We decided to focus on Macie’s place which we’re all excited for. I helped make the schedule for the rest of the semester. We planned when we would have each aspect of the project finished and when we would do interviews, research, etc. We are planning on visiting Macie’s place on Tuesday to meet the owners and talk to them about what their restrictions are with us for this project. We plan to start working on the biography and pictures first before we get into the more complicated stuff. I mainly helped with brainstorming the schedule and ideas on what we’ll do. There wasn’t much individual work to do this week since we haven’t started any research. I look forward to meeting the owners and going to the location to see what we’re focusing on. I think this idea will work out better timing wise because we have more time to execute our plan versus the other one which would have been very rushed together. The clothing drive won’t be for awhile so we have time to focus on all the aspects of the project.
Pechar Week 5
This week our team planned out a lot for our project. We finally decided on Maci’s Place, a local nonprofit organization near downtown Lincoln. We decided that the Market to Market relay would be so fun and interesting, but just wouldn’t work with our schedules and we were nervous we wouldn’t be able to get everything we need and only had one chance at the one-time event for the year. We created a schedule for the rest of the semester to conduct interviews, research information and more. We also made a list of different things we would like to have on our final website for Maci’s Place. It would be really cool to have an area with headshots of employees and managers with a little bit of background information on them, an interactive graph on their donations, an interview video, video or photos of the store and clothing drive, audio, 360 videos and an Adobe Spark video welcoming you when opening the site and talking about the history of the organization and what their fundamental purpose is. I think our group has done an excelled job working together so far, and hope that we can continue to agree and equally work on the project together through out the semester.

As a group, we decided to do our project over Macie’s Place instead of the Market to Market Relay. As a group, we wouldn’t all be able to participate in getting media for the Market to Market Relay as we realized some conflicts when planning for the event. I helped contribute to the group discussion to come up with what we should do for the up and coming weeks for our project. It was decided that a visit to Macie’s Place will take place on Tuesday to meet the founders and get permission to get video and photo of the store. It was also decided that we will stay at least a half hour or an hour after class on Wednesdays so we can discuss what we have accomplished both as a group and individually for the project. As of right now, there isn’t a lot the group or I can so at this point, we are just waiting to hit the ground running after Tuesdays meeting at Macie’s Place. We did make a lot of progress planning wise, the tentative schedule is planned out so we make a decent amount of progress each week. I’m looking forward to seeing where this project will go.
Week 4 Maggie DeGarmo
This week at Iceberg agency we put together our three ideas for the pitch in class. Previously to meeting for to put the power point together we each chose a topic to further research. The topic that I chose didn’t have too much information on it online so I wasn’t able to find many exciting things for it. In the future I probably would’ve done some more research such as finding reviews of it online or going into the actual establishment to get a better idea of what I should know about the place. When we met to create our power point I came up with the idea to go through each pitch and decide how we would relate the idea to the final project. I thought of the idea to do an interactive map of the relay race for our first pitch which would be on the website. Some challengers we encountered were narrowing down which ideas we would pitch and how we would complete all the portions of the project with the ideas that we came up with. We were able to narrow it down to one of our ideas and I’m excited about the prospect of completing an entire multi media project based on it.
Pechar Week 4
This week we pitched our ideas to the class and instructors. I contributed by finding information on the Reruns Organization and constructing what I would present for that pitch idea. We all discussed and worked out the three we wanted to narrow down on, and worked fairly together to figure out the strengths and weaknesses we might have if we chose that idea. I think whichever one we choose will turn out great. We talked about all of our team members individual skill we will bring to whichever project idea we choose and how we will split things up. We also decided to try the Relay to Relay run on October 6th because if it doesn’t work out, we have connections with both the other two ideas and already gathered a lot of information on both nonprofit organizations. Choosing between the two, we may lean more towards Macy’s place because it is Lincoln based so we wouldn’t have to go to Omaha for interviews, photos, and videos. Things we may do differently in the future could be making a pro’s and con’s list for ideas so we can see aspects of positivity and negativity regarding design and any potentially problematic situations.

This week I tried to help the group organize and construct the format of our pitches. We met before class and we were all throwing out ideas trying to generate solid content for the presentation. My main focus was trying to figure out what would get the audience pulled in to each pitch we had. I wanted the audience to be able to feel as strongly about each idea as we did as a group. The hardships I have had is coming to terms with what idea we should pursue. The Market to Market Relay is a great idea, but it requires a lot of planning prior to the event which is three and a half weeks away. The safer route would be to pick either Macie’s Place or ReRuns R Fun. We have connections to both organizations already and Macie’s Place is located in Lincoln so it has a convenient location. Individually, I am going to do some more research on the Market to Market Relay and figure out where each checkpoint is and what media format we should do at each. I am also going to work on figuring out who to contact for possible interviews if we go through with this idea. Overall it was a productive week.
