Week 11 Elsie Stormberg

These past few weeks have been really great toward the final project. I think that we are getting a good head start on things and we recently finished the outline. Since we have our outline pretty set, we will be beginning our website fairly soon. This is good because the end of the semester is coming up very quickly. Overall, we still need more b-roll, old photos of the shop and Suzy and her best friend Kristin who run the shop. We also need to go redo the 360 video (again, ugh) because when we did it last time for some reason it was flipped. I am not sure why but I plan to talk to Susan about it and hopefully we can get it figured out. The 360 video is going to be a large part of making the story itself interactive which is a key element in the final project. It’s really hard this time of year to find times to meet since everyone is super busy. Despite that, I am proud of how far we have come since the beginning of the year and am excited to finally have this project done.

Week 11 Maggie DeGarmo

This week we worked on compiling all of our data and starting our physical website. Elsie got another interview from Susie which we’re working on transcribing so that we can use it for copy, audio and video content for our website. We’re using WIX to make our website which has been pretty easy to navigate so far. We want to be able to incorporate an interstice function with poverty in Lincoln and around the country in other towns with Big Ten schools. Yet, we aren’t sure if we’ll be able to do that. We collaborated a lot during class time to start the intro of the website and I like what we have so far. We need to get some more b-roll of the store and we want to get some old pictures of Macie’s place to include in the website that coincides with some audio. In the future we need to just meet more in person so that we can organize the look of the website and collaborate on ideas. I want to keep on researching poverty in Lincoln and around the country so that we can include a powerful overview with an interactive component that adds to the overall feel of our website.

I met with my group outside of class today. As a group, we decided it would be best to start outlining the design and ideas we have in mind for the website before we place everything. We also decided on an intro video and started putting that together. Individually before we met I transcribed the part of the interview with Suzy that I was assigned. I feel like overall our meeting overall was very productive. We figured out the overall format of how we want to set up the website and what media we want to use. We have been utilizing the interactive website presentation ideas that we all had and are trying to incorporate ideas from that as well. The next step is taking the media we have and putting it on the physical website. The only thing we have seemed to struggle with is finding a time to meet when all of us are free. As a group, we have been setting goals for the project and meet them in one way or another. We have been very productive and are in the final stretch of what we need to accomplish to finalize everything before the final presentation.

Pechar Week 12

This week, my group went to Macie’s Place to get more information for the biography of Suzanne. She explained that she wants Kristin, her partner in the organization, to be included as well. So, we may have to work extra hard on getting more information about Kristin for the piece. Elise and I went to the store to get a 360 video of the inside and the outside. We were able to get video of people shopping, entering, and leaving the store. Just in case, I audio taped along with it so we could get audio of the activities. There were a lot of trucks driving by so we got some great audio of that happening, as well as possibly the door ringing when it was opened and shut. I basically finished up the biography on Suzanne, and am going to get started on a timeline of her life that we could incorporate into the website. Depends if I have enough information on dates in her life big events occurred already or if I will need to plan another visit. Overall, this week our group has continued to work together on things. Even though Elise and I were the only ones able to make it to the store, the others were so helpful on writing out the interview and peer reviewing work.

Pechar Week 11

This week our group has worked together to start writing the owner biography and writing a script from our interview. This has taken most of our time because the interview was over an hour. Luckily, we were able to break it up equally to get it done. It will take longer than we think, but I think it is important to have. I am going to Macy’s Place this afternoon to gather more detailed information about the owner and gather any personal stories she may want to be included in her biography. I will be writing this portion this weekend and beginning of next week, with help from group members and everyone’s peer reviews. It will be exciting to get more information on her life as an organization leader, and finding out how the organization began. Our group has worked equally so far, and all have something talented to contribute to the work. Elise is going to keep working on a 360 video as well. We have begun establishing the design and format of our website, and getting cool ideas from class presentations on interactive ads that we can incorporate into our work.

Week 10- Maggie DeGarmo

This past week at Iceberg agency we started compiling all the data that we have so far collected. We collected a lot of information from our visit to Macie’s place such as interviews, b-roll footage, a time-lapse and some photos. This week we decided that to narrow down some of what we collected in order to have more concise information. We want to start working on the website in a more physical way. We took portions of the interview and transcribed them. We plan on using portions of the interview in video clips, audio clips and quotes for our text. However, there was a lot of background noise in the interview so Elsie suggested that we interview her again to have clearer audio. We all agreed that this was a good idea because we want to have the best possible media for our website. We also did some research on poverty in Lincoln because we want to incorporate this into our website with our interactive feature. One thing that we need to try and work on as a group is dividing up the work and finding times that we can meet. It’s difficult to do this because of our conflicting schedules, so hopefully we can find a solution to that soon.

Elsie Stormberg Week 10

This week at the Iceberg Agency we are getting a lot of things done. Although we have been behind the past couple of weeks because of other classes, I think this week will be really great when it comes to progress on our project. We will be re-interviewing Suzy at Macie’s Place because the last interview did not cover everything we needed. As a group, I think we have decided that the site itself will surround our text about Suzy. Not only will we interview Suzy, we will also get more b-roll and start working on 360 video to include on our site. We are planning on splitting up the transcriptions because the interview will be very long. Suzy can talk your ear off but she has a lot of interesting things to say that will be helpful toward our piece. I think it would be worthy to get old photos of the shop and what their homes used to look like when the organization was based out of Suzy’s house and Kristin Ondrak’s home. We also gained some inspiration from one of the interactive pieces that was presented on Wednesday and how we present our poverty information. I think one thing we are struggling with is following our schedule of when we should have things completed. We will figure it out though.

Pechar Week 10

This week, our group has begun writing a script from our interview, a biography/contribute to the owner of Macys Place, and gather a few more b-roll, 360 shots, and information. We also decided it would be a good idea to go back to the store and re-interview her. When we went in, we were constantly interrupted. It was a busy time, and although we received good information from her, we were all distracted by customers coming in and leaving. Some interesting parts we got from the audio and interview was her telling customers to have a blessed day, giving children free toys, other customers talking to us about their personal stories they gave permission for us to use, and so much more. It was great for the sense of background noise for the site and interviews, but to be safe we decided it would be important to go back after hours so we were not interrupted and could find a more spacious area to set up with better lighting. We are all continue working together as a team, splitting up content equally and trying our hardest to find times that work for all members of the group. I am very pleased with how our project has come so far, and can’t wait to see the finished product!

Jaydn Bernt Week 10 Blog

This week as a group we have been working on getting all or out information and media gathered that we have collected over the previous weeks. Individually I helped transcribe part of the interview that I conducted with the founder of Macie’s Place. As a group, we decided that is would be best to go back and do a second interview Friday when the store is closed in hopes with better audio and video this time around. Last time we seemed to come around the busy hour and captured a lot of background noise when listening back to the audio we got. I have also been thinking of ways that we want to start putting things together on the physical website. I know we decided to use the platform Wix, now I am just figuring out the best features and ways for us to put everything on the website. Each of us individually has been doing research on the poverty levels in Nebraska and in Lincoln to use as data visualization on our website. We have yet to come together as a group and discuss what we have found. The goal is to use the data we compile to make a graph or an interactive map that shows the poverty levels.

Elsie Stormberg Week 9

At the Iceberg Agency we are just beginning to collect information about poverty in Lincoln in order to create some sort of infographic or interactive map. We have been struggling to find a time to meet to work on the project as well as split up the work. I think that once we figure out how to split up the work things will go a little smoother so we don’t have to deal with meeting in person. This week I hope we can start working on our written biography of Suzy from Macie’s Place because that written piece will be a huge part of our interactive site I think. We also have been talking about what site we want to use to create the website and we think Wix will be the best way to go about it. Also, I plan on going back to the shop to get more b-roll of customers picking through and maybe even a time lapse. I think the time lapse will be a great aspect to add to our site along with 360 video. I hope to do that this week along with another person in the group. Overall, I think the work we do this week will be really influential in our final project.
