Maggie DeGarmo week 8

This week we got a lot done which I’m happy with. We were able to go to Macie’s Place to get a lot of footage. We interviewed the owner as well as a customer who told us some interesting stories. We were able to get some b-roll footage and a time lapse which we’ll use for our website. We had some great conversations with the owner and got to know her better. I think we got a lot of useful footage but I definitely think we need more. We’ll need some more b-roll and interviews in order to complete our website. We’ll also need to start writing for the copy that we want to include on the website. There was a lot of commotion in the store while we were doing our interview which might affect the quality of the footage. However, I also believe that it gave a realistic quality of the interview. She was interacting with customers and acting like she normally does which I think is important to showcase. We plan to go back in the future and get more footage and information in order to perfect our website. Overall I think it was a very successful week.

Elsie Stormberg Week 8

This week for the Iceberg Agency led to several successes and just a few failures. Although we got the interview we needed and most of the b-roll we needed, we could get more b-roll. Overall, I do not think we have enough for a substantial interactive website. We need to begin doing research on poverty in Lincoln so we can attempt to create a map highlighting the higher levels of poverty around Lincoln and the different organizations similar to Macie’s Place that are put in place to aid those that are less fortunate. Another interactive aspect that will be important to get that we failed to achieve 360 video. But this week we hope to rent a 360 video camera out from the equipment check out office to utilize. Another thing we were successful with was interviews with different people who come into the shop. One of these interviews was from a woman who has volunteered at Macie’s Place since the very beginning. I hope that this week we can work to split up the work more evenly so that we all can contribute equally. Overall, I feel a lot better now that we have the interview and a portion of the b-roll out of the way. We still have a lot to do.

Pechar Week 8

This week our group members visited Macies Place during our class period. It was a beneficial visit for all of us. For some, it was our first time really touring the place or meeting the owner. The owner is Suzanne and she was very helpful. She was optimistic, positive energy and very selfless. We got the chance to interview her and gather more information on how she started the organization and why she did. We learned that she sacrifices over 60 hours a week for Macies Place and the importance of helping less fortunate people in our local community. She shared a lot of stories on her regular customers and personal experiences. Elise captured B-Roll and footage of the outside of the store while we worked with Suzanne on interview questions and conversed with customers and their personal experiences. We learned a lot of valuable information we can use and all got to see how Macies Place has such an impact on the local community. I think the process of our interactive project is on track and will be successful. Everyone is putting in equal efforts and meeting up when we can. If not everyone can meet up, we have all been good with contributing by doing something else on our own time. Everyone has done such a great job and I can’t wait to see how our project continues.

Today we went to Macie’s Place to get content for our interactive website. Individually I was in charge of conducting the interviews and getting the footage and audio we needed for the website. I think as a group we got a lot of great content. We got some customers who were very passionate to share stories and give us their perspective on what they have seen here in Lincoln poverty wise. This website definitely won’t be lacking in interesting stories, we have got plenty of those. We also made sure to get b roll while we were ar Macie’s Place and came out successful with that as well. I am truly excited to see where this project will take us. I’m hoping this website will not just help spread the word about Macie’s Place but help people understand the poverty and homelessness that is in Lincoln and how each and every one of us can help out. The only challenge we have encountered is scheduling when to get content and when we will all be able to help contribute to the paper. But everyone has contributed greatly to the project so far and we have got a lot of great content in the works.

Elsie Stormberg -Week 7

Overall, the Iceberg Agency did not get exactly what we wanted completed but we have a solid plan to drive over to Macie’s Place to interview Suzy, one of the owners, get some b-roll and get 360 video. I am excited about this because of all the different visuals we will create and work on. I am love visuals and think, especially for this type of project, these visuals will be extremely important for the final product. I also found a site that might be a viable option for the interactive website called Esri. I have not thoroughly looked through it yet but suspect there is a possibility that it will require some form of initial payment to continue working with it. Esri looks like a solid option because it also has a function that creates maps, which has definitely been something we want to include on our site. The interactive websites we have been looking at in class have definitely been really helpful when brainstorming different ideas for the project. I am just excited to finally have some physical work done on this project so I can better visualize how we will end up creating the final product.

Week 7 Maggie DeGarmo

This week at iceberg agency we were planning on going back into Macies Place for the second time to take some pictures of the owner hanging up sock for their annual toy drive. After some contemplation we decided that the pictures weren’t necessary for our overall goal so we redid our game plan. We decided to go next wednesday to interview the owner and get more of her backstory and the backstory of Macie’s Place. We are going to compile some interview questions together and come up with a succinct list of questions so that we can get the most important information from her. We also want to hear some important or interesting stories that have shaped her life and the store as a whole. We would also like to get some names of customers that we can possibly also interview. We discussed whether or not to video tape the interview or just audio record it. I thought it would be a cool idea to do an audio tape so that we can split it up into segments and use certain parts of the interview in different portions of the website so that it isn’t just one long interview that people would have to watch.

Week 7 Blog-Maxwell Heng

It has been hectic the past couple weeks for me, and I think that my group feels the same way. A lot of test and quizzes have been laid on my lap, so I was very busy this week and wasn’t able to get much done for the project. It turns out that the rest of the group was pretty busy too, so we didn’t end up going to Macie’s place this week. We will take advantage of next week’s class time to go and visit Macie’s place. We plan on taking a lot of pictures there and do some interviews. We are slowly, but surely, narrowing our project focus. I am a lot more open next week, so I think it will not only be a productive week for me for the project, but for the group as a whole. We have a lot of things laid out next week for the project focus. With fall break coming up in a couple weeks, the group is planning most of our work for the time off school. This will allow us to focus mainly on the project and eliminate any outside distractions that would be happening otherwise. I’m looking forward to what we will accomplish the next two weeks.

Pechar Week 7

This week we worked on our schedule. We got 2 points taken off for not being specific enough, so we are working on who is going to do what. I work best with writing, so I am hoping to work on the “About/Bio” of our page with information on the Maci’s Place owner and nonprofit organization. Elise is really good at photography and does it as a job, so she is assigned to work on videos and photos of the owner and her story. The other’s discussed doing the interviews and audio, but overall we are all going to work together on everything we include and work together to edit and revise.  So far we are working well together. Our only problem is that another team member and I can only really get together on Tuesdays and Thursdays but the others can on Mondays and Wednesdays so we will need to work around all of our schedules to make sure if we can’t all meet together at once then we can at least split it up so no one has to work alone.

As a group, we met after class and decided our approach coming into next week. We decided that calling the owner and telling her our plan would instill a smooth environment for both us and her. We already got permission to get interviews and film now we just have to delegate work amongst ourselves and start working. I’ve started to think creatively of what we can do to get media and what we can do visually for our website. I know as a group we would like to utilize the 360 video feature, the task at hand is just finding a creative way to go about using it and what we want to show visually. Challenges we have come across this week is discovering that our schedules seem to collide when it comes to wanting to go out and get work done. Overall, we’re going to have to split up work. If we can all go as a group or as a pair that’s great but we might have to go individually to get the job done. I feel like we have solid ideas and know what we want to accomplish it’s just a matter of time of getting it done and creating the content.

Week 6 blog- Maggie DeGarmo

This week at Iceberg agency we started the first step in the process for our project. We decided that we wanted to go visit the site of our focus. We went to Macie’s place to officially meet one of the owners and ask her some questions. We decided to ask her about what her limitations were for what she was comfortable with us filming or photographing. She was very excited about our ideas and she was fine with whatever we wanted to do. She gave us some times that would work best for her during the week and told us that we can start taking pictures of them hanging up their gloves for their upcoming toy drive. She told us that she can get us in contact with some people that we may want to interview. She also told us that we can interview her and the other owner. In the future we’re going to try and go when she has more time to talk with her and make sure that we don’t catch her at a busy time so that we can make sure to get full interviews. I’m glad we went and met her and were able to see Macie’s Place because it gives me a visual of what we’re focusing on.
